NYT: Ukrainian Forces Took A Risk

An unexpected attempt to weaken the occupiers on the eastern front.

Ukraine launched an attack on Russia through a weakly defended section of the border — this was a risky and unexpected attempt to ease the pressure of the occupiers on the eastern front.

Analyzing the situation on the battlefield, the author of the publication for The New York Times noted that, having launched an attack in the Kursk region, Ukrainian troops quickly captured more territory inside Russia than the Russians did in almost a year of their offensive in eastern Ukraine.

The NYT also recalled the words of dictator Putin that the Russian army will not divert forces from the Donbas, "which he called the army's top priority, to protect Russian soil."

The publication emphasizes that the Russian offensive on Pokrovsk has stalled in one of the key sections of the front for more than a week, however, there are no signs that Russia has abandoned its goal of advancing to the city.

In addition, the NYT added that, as battlefield maps show, the Russian advance on Pokrovsk was stopped a week ago near the town of Selidovo, but the enemy continued to advance in the southern direction.

“The Russian army has almost surrounded the Ukrainian-held territory between the towns of Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo,” the article reads.
