Belarusian: Lukashenka Presented Another Embezzlement

What is behind the idea to build a new museum in Minsk?

State media reported that Lukashenko wants to build a National Historical Museum, a Park of National Unity, and a sculptural composition “United Belarus” on the site of the Minsk “Dreamland”. Lukashenka demanded that the exposition not contain any “nationalist or jingoistic excesses” so that other nations could agree with the interpretation of Belarusian history.

There is no need to explain that we are talking about a nation located to the east of Belarus, writes a reader of the Charter97.org website:

— Apparently, one of the curators of the project will be the “chief librarian” Hihin. It is scary to think what will be written about Belarusian history under his leadership. About Polatsk and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, about the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, about uprisings against Russian tsarism and about the BPR.

Given the sad situation in the Belarusian sanctioned economy, the presentation of such a project seems untimely and inadequate. It is unclear where the regime will get the money for its new gigantic embezzlement. Even if it is found, Belarusians are unlikely to be happy about a gigantic monument to Lukashism, created with an eye on Putin. They want solutions to problems in the social sphere, healthcare, and education. Decent salaries, scholarships and pensions.

But Lukashenka wants a new museum, where there will be only one outstanding personality in the history of Belarus, where everything will be saturated with the poison of his era.
