“The Head of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan will not take part in the visiting meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held in Moscow on December 19,” said the press secretary of the head of the Armenian parliament Tsovinar Khachatryan.

It is noted that the delegation of the National Assembly of Armenia will also not take part in the meeting.

“Alen Simonyan informed the head of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, about his decision not to go to Moscow in an official letter,” Khachatryan noted.

It is important to note that earlier Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ignored the CSTO summit that took place on November 23 in Minsk.

Armenian officials also did not participate in the meetings preceding the CSTO Council session with the participation of the ministers of foreign affairs and defense and the secretaries of the Security Council of the CSTO countries.

Experts and political scientists suggest that in this way Armenia is preparing for a complete withdrawal from the CSTO. The same scenario may also await Kazakhstan due to the deterioration of political relations with the Russian Federation amid tightening sanctions.

Relations between the Russian Federation and Armenia are deteriorating

The Armenian authorities have repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of effective support from the CSTO within the framework of international cooperation of its member countries. In particular, the last such complaint about the presence of Russian military bases on the territory of the country was expressed by Armenia during active hostilities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Note that the members of the CSTO are Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

In the summer, Armenia refused to participate in the “Skala-2023” exercises in Belarus under the auspices of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

At the end of October, it became known that the Armenian authorities were considering the possibility of closing Russian state television channels because they committed violations.
